Hardy, deciduous, drought resistant, small tree that likes dry rocky places.  It has large, velvety leaves that are almost quilted.  Fragrant, greenish-yellow flowers are borne from Sept. to Nov. and are followed by 4 winged fruit.  The almost black stem is rough and fissured.  As with most Combretum sp. it attracts a host of wildlife to the garden.  It also has extensive medicinal properties.
