Hardy, deciduous, drought resistant, small tree that likes dry rocky places. It has large, velvety leaves that are almost quilted. Fragrant, greenish-yellow flowers are borne from Sept. to Nov. and are followed by 4 winged fruit. The almost black stem is rough and fissured. As with most Combretum sp. it attracts a host of wildlife to the garden. It also has extensive medicinal properties.
