Fairly hardy, evergreen tree with dense, dark leave crown. Needs protection from cold in highveld gardens and will grow in shade. Birds and bats eat the figs, witch are borne in the leaf axils for most of the year but peaking from Oct. to Dec. The figs are green with white spots. This is a strangler fig and has aerial roots. Do not plant figs trees near walls, pools, pipes or paving. The young leaves and figs make good fodder. It has many medicinal and traditional uses.
