Hardy, small, evergreen tree or shrub that has attractive, bright green, leathery leaves with wavy margins. The leaves on this very variable tree sometimes have a whitish bloom. Dense heads of small white flowers that are tinged with mauve and have a lovely scent are borne from May to Aug. It attracts bees and insects to the garden. It grows in sun or shade - stays shrubby in the sun and can grow into quite a big tree when grown in shade. The wood is used for fencing.
