Hardy, evergreen shrublet that is an exceptionally important butterfly host plant. It has pretty umbels of complex white flowers. These are followed by typical milkweed, inflated seed capsules that look like balloons and are wonderful used in flower arrangements. This slender plant is pretty and can be planted in a mixed border. It can become a weed in disturbed areas but is worth planting for the butterflies. It also has many traditional uses.
